Departure
The events take place in the Kingdom of Granada after the fall of all the Islamic kingdoms in Andalusia. The events of the trilogy begin in 1491, the year in which Granada fell with the announcement of the treaty by which Abu Abdullah Muhammad al-Saghir, the last king of Granada, relinquished his kingdom to the kings of Castile and Aragon. The events end with the last living hero, Ali, disobeying the decision to deport the Muslims when he discovers that death lies in leaving Andalusia, not in staying.
Several editions of the trilogy were published. The first edition was published by Dar Al-Hilal in two parts in 1994 and 1995. The second edition was published by the Arab Foundation for Studies and Publishing in 1998. The third edition was published by Dar Al-Shorouk in 2001. The fourth edition (a special edition for the Family Library) was published by Dar Al-Shorouk in 2004. The fifth edition was published by Dar Al-Shorouk in 2005.
