The story of my yellow bag

Written by: Hanadi Hussein

Production: Dar Ashjar

We all think a lot about what to take with us or pack before going on any trip, short or long, far or near. We carry with us the things we or those accompanying us might need. Sometimes we take items that we only need in special and very rare circumstances, but we do so out of extra caution and preparation for any surprise we might face while away from our homes, which are full of things. This behavior is not limited to adults; it may be more common among children, who are attached to their bags and love to fill them with their intimate belongings, carrying them with them on all occasions. Writer Hanadi Al-Habashi tackles this topic with humor and a sweet and engaging narration, accompanied by the beautiful illustrations of the story's charming heroine by artist Basma Hossam, who follows her funny events. Ola is a little girl with a big imagination. She doesn't leave the house unless she's filled her yellow bag with a myriad of strange items, including red shoes, a pillow, a quilt, a screwdriver, and other items she'd never need on a short family outing. But with her ever-bright imagination, Ola finds a justification for her actions, and for those items there's an unexpected occasion no one would think of! Children will burst into laughter as they read the story as they listen to the items Ola put in her bag, her hilarious and very strange justifications, and her mother's sweet way of placating her and convincing her to part with them. Children and adults alike will fall in love with Ola, who will see in her actions an open invitation to talk about the things they put in their bags and their justifications for them. The laughter will increase even more when we discover that we're not that different from Ola.
